Why even bother with Air Filters and changing them out?

Unless you like having huge HVAC repair bills, then I’d recommend changing out your air filters regularly.  New HVAC filters help your system run smoothly, keeps particles from building up, and reduces your electricity bill.  Unclean filters are one of the main reasons that cause AC units to break down.

Also dirty air filters reduce the air quality in your home which can be detrimental to your health, especially if you have allergies and asthma.  New filters will block more bacteria, pollen, dust, smog, and other dirty particles from reaching you and prevents breathing in nasty stuff into your lungs.

The chore of changing out your air filters regularly is worth it.  You will have healthier and cleaner air, lower electricity bills, and less HVAC repairs, plus it takes less time replacing them than cleaning out the garage, or mowing the lawn.

What Size Filter Do I need?

Hopefully there’s an old filter in the return which has the height, width, and depth listed on the filter, that would make it easy.  If not, simply use a measuring tape to measure the inside of the vent return to insure you order the correct size filter.

Qsqg.net carriers a very large selection of air filter sizes in 1″, 2″, 4″ and 5″ depths.  If you can’t find the size you are looking for, please contact us and we’ll do our best to help out.

How often should I replace my air filters?

We recommend every 90 days for the filters we sell, but this is contingent on the environment to live and work in.  If you have several cats and dogs living in your home, have allergies, or live where the air quality is poor, like Los Angeles, then I’d consider changing them out a little more often.

What kind of MERV, MPR, FPR rated filters should I use in my home or business?

In most homes and business, a MERV 8, MPR 600, or FPR 5 rated filter is perfectly fine.   If you have allergies or asthma, then upgrading to a MERV 11, MPR 1000, FPR 7 filter will provide additional filtration to take out pollen and allergens.  A MERV 13, MPR 2200, FPR 10 air filter provides an even higher level of filtration, great for filtering environments with smog, smoke, and tiny particles.  Make sure your HVAC is able to handle the increased air resistance and filtration that MERV 13 filters provide.

What does MERV, MPR, and FPR RATINGs even mean?

MERV stands for Minimum Efficiency Reporting Value.  This is the primary air conditioner furnace filter industry rating used by ASHRAE, which is short for American Society of Heating, Refrigeration, and Air Conditioning Engineers.

MPR is short for Micro-particle Performance Rating, and was devised by 3M for air filters such as those sold in Lowes.

FPR is short for Filter Performance Rating, and was devised by Honeywell for air filters such as those sold in Home Depot.

Are the Filters Made in the USA and how is the Quality?

The AC & Furnace filters we offer are manufactured in the USA and are designed to provide solid, exceptional performance and be efficient with a wide range of HVAC systems. Our air filters are sent through demanding quality assurance testing to ensure that their resistance, working efficiency and particle holding capability are all above the industry average. The HVAC filters we sell all have a galvanized steel pleat support grid to ensure they don’t bend or buckle in tough environments.  The steel support grid is a major factor in costs compared to cheaper filters which just have paper as support. This construction ensures that our filters last longer and guarantee filtering stability.
